Update 2 – 9th June 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
I have been able to gain some clarity about the Government message regarding schools opening. It is as follows:
Primary schools are NOT now expected to be fully open this term, but will be open for some pupils.
Secondary schools are NOT now expected to be fully open this term, but will be open for some pupils.
This means we will be keeping to the plans we have drawn up, and we will be having a small number of secondary students in school from Monday. We have already been in contact with these families. We will be closely monitoring how things go in school and will be considering how we can increase numbers when it is safe and possible to do so. I will keep you updated when we have news or information to share.
Kind regards,
Steve Hughes,
Executive Head Teacher,
Wilson Stuart School.
Update 1 – June 9th 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you and your families are well. It is encouraging to see that the situation regarding Covid19 is improving, but it is clear that this danger is far from over and we must all continue to be extremely careful and keep ourselves safe. We have welcomed a very small number of additional primary children back into school today. This is after a week of planning and making very careful arrangements designed to make this as safe as is possible for students and staff. The very small groups of students we have in from today are spread out across school and are being kept entirely separate from each other at all times. You can see what we are doing in detail in our Covid Secure Management Plans on our web-site. Yesterday (Monday) we held a staff induction day in order to make sure all staff clearly understand what we will be doing, and are familiar with social distancing measures, PPE requirements safety rules and most importantly what each individual needs to do in order to make us Covid secure. We have an induction day planned for Friday for Secondary staff and our plans are to admit a small number of secondary students on this basis from Monday June 15th. This planning has been thrown into disarray this morning by the recent announcement after Matt Hancock’s comments yesterday suggesting secondary schools would not open until September “at the earliest”. I do not think the often confusing and contradictory messages from the Government are helping anyone, and it is making our job in school extremely difficult. There will be an announcement today from the Government and I hope this will clarify the situation for us all. I will be in touch with you when this is has been made clear and confirm what we will be doing at Wilson Stuart. As always, if you need to contact school we are here if there is anything you need help with.
Keep safe and kind regards,
Steve Hughes
