Prime area -Communication and Language
Bees work on developing listening and attention skills, understanding and verbal skills. We play a range of games designed to tune into different sounds such as environmental and instrumental sound lotto, listening walks and body percussion. This also supports their Phase one Phonics Development – a crucial stage in learning to read. Children take part in focus story sessions using props and symbols and also complete linked activities over the week. Where appropriate, children may take part in small group focus sessions based on communication activities such as simple board games answering everyday who/what/where questions, matching games or memory games such as ‘pairs’ and ‘Kim’s game’.
Prime area -Physical development
Children are regularly offered opportunities to explore different ways of moving as is appropriate to the individual, developing both gross motor skills and fine motor skills needed for a range of tasks. Bees Staff work closely with our Physiotherapy Team to support each child’s physical development daily. The team work hard to support children in becoming more independent, for example putting on their own shoes or taking off their coat, Children are encouraged to toilet train if appropriate. . Children take part in exploratory mark-making activities, copying patterns and exploring horizontal, vertical, circular, clockwise and anticlockwise movements.
