English

Autumn

Students study the skills needed to undertake Paper 1 Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing. They look at fiction texts from different writers and times and use them to analyse the language, structure and ideas explored. The students also practice writing creatively and descriptively. Students will also complete the non-examined spoken language component.

Some students will complete the AQA Step up to English Travel topic focusing on developing their reading and writing skills.

Spring

Students will study Paper 2 AQA Writers Viewpoints and Perspectives. They explore countless non-fiction texts and develop the skill to summarise information and ideas. Students also develop the skills to analyse language and structure and compare how writers communicate their ideas and opinions. As part of paper 2 students will also practice writing non-fiction texts to suit different audiences and purposes.

Some students will complete the AQA Step up to English Detectives topic focusing on developing their reading and writing skills

Summer

Students will revisit both exam papers and aim to build on the skills they have gained so far. They will practice working under exam conditions and learn how to approach the different questions on the papers.

Some students will complete the AQA Step up to English Volunteering topic focusing on developing their reading and writing skills

TLM Level 2 – Students are to complete the work related to Unit 9 – PowerPoint Presentation. Students will work through the criteria and create a professional presentation using advanced features. Students will test their presentation and evidence their work

TLM Level 2 – Students are to complete the work related to Unit 17 – Video Software. Students will work through the criteria and create a Video using advanced features. Students will test their Video and evidence their work.
Summer
TLM Level 2 – Students are to complete the work related to Unit 5 –Spreadsheet Software. Students will work through the criteria and create a professional Spreadsheet using advanced features. Students will test their Spreadsheet and evidence their work.

Cope: ASDAN Level 1 (Life Skills)

Autumn
Taking part in community work like helping to raise money for a good course (MacMillan). Planning a journey to Birmingham museum and Art gallery and reporting back on the visit. Learn how to play draughts and investigate further sport and leisure challenges.

Spring
Visit a local park to investigate/sketch wildlife and take photos. Visit the National memorial Arboretum at Alrewas to learn about remembrance and report back to the class about the visit. Complete PE and swimming challenges and begin to manage the garden area at school.

Summer
Continuing to manage the garden area at school and investigate some environment challenges.

Explain what is meant by the term non-verbal communication. Explain why listening skills are important. Describe examples of aggressive, assertive and passive behaviour. Food

Students will undertake a range of different sills and be expected to work independently to create a range of dishes.  Skills will be taught and will progress to individuals creating and following own recipes demonstating a variety of skills which will be assessed.  The Home cooking skills award is an accredited course for students to show independence and resilience when preparing food and raising awareness of healthy food products
