The PMLD curriculum at Wilson Stuart School provides students with a variety of ways to access learning through cognition, communication, physical skills and independent skills. The Arts are also viewed as a vital part of this framework, music in particular, as it encompasses all of these areas of study. Students partake in weekly, hour-long music sessions in which they are given opportunities to explore a range of instruments and interact with others in their group through song.

With the use of Sounds of Intent students can demonstrate their progression through an individualised pathway. This is an in-depth framework, with growing recognition of its effectiveness in mapping musical behaviour and development for children and young people with complex needs.

The effectiveness of this approach is evident through high levels of engagement and enthusiasm displayed consistently by our students.
