In Inspire 2, exciting things will take place over the course of the year! With a wide range of themes included; ‘Colours’, ‘Transport’, ‘Different Cultures’ and ‘Water’ to name but a few, students will have a chance to explore and learn using a multi-sensory approach. They can immerse themselves in a world full of bright colours, experience music, food and traditions from around the World or take a journey to the bottom of the sea.
Themes are incorporated into a wide range of lessons including: Communication, Cognition, Music, Functional Physical, Swimming and Self Help and Independence. Lessons are personalised to allow all of our learners to show off the best of their skills in a fun and interactive way.
Communication lessons are used to allow pupils to demonstrate and use their preferred methods of communication in 1:1 and small group settings. We encourage our pupils to use technology to develop the best communication skills that they can, including switches, Big Macs and iPads. Pupils will develop their skills of using different switches to activate electrical appliances including fans and hairdryers. Pupils are encouraged to consolidate existing skills and develop new skills, for example broadening their use of technology through using the interactive white board.
Everyday pupils are given the opportunity to participate in lessons that allow them to sustain their strength and mobility. For those pupils that have a Physiotherapy Plan, supporting staff will work to ensure that pupils can complete the movements and stretches that have been assigned to them. During this time, pupils also make use of their personalised equipment, including standing frames, wedges and mey walkers. Pupils in Inspire 2 participate in a weekly thematic music lesson that allows them opportunities to express themselves through music and song. With support, pupils can experiment with a variety of instruments and with different sounds.
Self Help and Independence allows pupils to develop the everyday skills that can be transferred between the home and school environment. This half term we will be focusing on teeth brushing routines. This will range from co-operation to attempting to brush our own teeth.
