On Wednesday 25th April the Table Cricket Team went in search of their 3rd title of the year at the West Midlands Lord’s Taverners Table Cricket Championships, looking to extend their unbeaten run of 40 matches without defeat.
The team got off to the perfect start in their first match against Derwen College scoring 312 runs and bowling their opponents out for 195 and similar results followed in the next match against Chadsgrove School with Wilson Stuart posting another impressive score of 297 runs and then again restricting their opponents to another low score in reply of 221. This put the team into the play off for a place in the final where they came up against Penn Hall School, again batting first Wilson Stuart posted a score of 275 their lowest of the day, however, this didn’t turn out to be a problem as they restricted their opponents to 185 in reply being Wilson Stuart had made the final for the forth year in a row and extended their unbeaten run to 43 matches.
In final the team came up against unknown quantity of The Futures Academy playing in their first table cricket competition, unfortunately Wilson Stuart didn’t get off to their usual strong start with the bat and limped towards a total of 255 leaving themselves a lot of work to do with the ball. Although they battled hard in the field they just did not have enough runs on the board to defend and after 44 matches the team’s winning run came to an end eventually losing the final by 16 runs to a very strong side.
Every good run eventually comes to an end and team’s learn from and defeat and a new one run begins…as defending National Champions the team have the opportunity to do this by defending their National Title at Lord’s on Thursday 21st June 2018.
