Class 5’s visit to Middleton Village and Beacon Farm Shop
On Tuesday 26th January Class 5 went to Middleton village as part of our Topic work on Town and Country. As we got near, we saw fields with horses and sheep in.
There is just one shop in the village but it sells all sorts of different things – crisps, sweets, fruit, milk, bread , newspapers, eggs, drinks and a range of tinned and frozen food. The shopkeeper told us that she has lots of regular customers who come in everyday and many people stop there to buy their lunch. The nearest shops elsewhere are 5 miles away!
In the middle of the village is an old church. It smelt musty inside but there were some interesting statues and lovely stained glass windows. There are wooden pews to sit on and cushions for people to kneel on if they want to pray. We signed the Visitors’ Book to show that we had been.
It was very quiet in Middleton with very little traffic. At the other end from the shop is a school building now used as a Day Nursery. We waved to the children who were playing outside
It was a very cold day so we hurried back to the buses parked in the pub car park and set off for our next visit to Beacon Farm Shop, where we bought lots of vegetables. After that it was back to school and life in the city! (Written by the children in Class 5)
