Wilson Stuart School Outreach Service consists of a small team of teachers based at Wilson Stuart School for children with physical difficulties. The team currently comprises:
We are also able to link with specialist teachers on the staff of the school to bring their expertise direct to staff and pupils in mainstream settings.
The Wilson Stuart Outreach service, like everything in education, has seen many changes since its inception in 1988. In the early days much input was 1:1 working with individual pupils on a regular basis.
Prior to the introduction of the Code of Practice we were already moving towards enskilling teachers and integration assistants by delivering Inset covering a wide range of issues related to the pupil with motor impairment.
Currently the main thrust of our inputs is advisory visits to schools, individual assessments and involvement in target setting through IEPs.
INSET delivery is a growing part of our work, enabling us to enskill parents and professionals thus promoting inclusive practice.
Over time we have built up a significant amount of expertise in identifying and supporting pupils with Developmental Co-ordination Difficulties (DCD). The practical strategies that we have developed for use in the classroom and at home, have been welcomed by teachers and parents of children with dyspraxia.
Wilson Stuart Outreach Service directly supports pupils in schools in the North of Birmingham. It is not possible to accept individual pupil referrals on line as we have to have signatures from parties involved.
Schools can download our referral form into Word here.
