On Tuesday 13th March the Secondary Boccia Teams went to Nechells Health and Wellbeing Centre to take part in the West Midlands Lord’s Taverners Boccia Championships. After an outstanding performance in the Birmingham Competition in the previous round where Wilson Stuart School finished first and second place two teams from school were able to take place in the Regional Competition. Drawn in separate groups the A Team (Junior Team) came up against Two Rivers School from Staffordshire and Uplands Manor from the Black Country and the B Team (Senior Team) came up against Sherbourne Fields from Warwickshire and Chadsgrove from Worcestershire.
Both team were successful in winning both of their group matches
Wilson Stuart A winning 2 – 1 against Uplands Manor and 6 – 0 against Two Rivers and Wilson Stuart B winning 6 – 1 against Sherbourne Fields and winning the Tie Break against Chadsgrove to win 3 – 2.
Meaning both teams had progressed to the semi finals where the A Team beat Sherbourne Fields 8 – 1 and the B Team beating Uplands Manor 3 – 1 setting up are carbon copy of the Birmingham Finals where both Wilson Stuart School Teams contested the final.
In the final the A Team started the stronger taking the first end 1- 0 but after that it was one traffic as the B Team took advantage and won the 3 remaining ends 1 – 0, 2 – 0 and 5 – 0 meaning the Wilson Stuart School B Team were crowned Lord’s Taverners Regional Boccia Champions for 2018 and qualifying for the Nationals Schools Championships in April with the A Team finishing runners up. A massive achievement from all those involved!
